In 1960, Gibson redesigned their popular Les Paul Standards and introduced the Gibson SG Les Paul. This was renamed the SG Standard due to Les Paul's dissatisfaction with the new guitar. The SG stands for “solid guitar,” and it featured a thinner body, distinctive twin cutaways, pointed horns, and beveled edges. SGs are also characterized by their thin and fast necks. Angus Young of AC/DC is probably the most readily identified musician to use the Gibson SG, and today Gibson includes an Angus Young SG in their lineup.
